🧠 How this is calculated

Each month interest (balance × APR ÷ 12) is added and your payment is subtracted, until the balance reaches zero. Payoff time and total interest come from that month-by-month schedule.

Calculations run in your browser; nothing you enter is sent to us. Results are estimates that depend on the assumptions shown.

❓ FAQs

How is credit card interest calculated?

Issuers typically apply your APR as a daily rate to your balance. If you carry a balance, you usually lose the grace period on new purchases; see our guide on how credit card interest works.

Why does paying more than the minimum matter?

Minimum payments are small, so most of the payment can go to interest and the balance falls slowly. A higher fixed payment shortens payoff time and reduces total interest.

Is this financial advice?

No. The calculator shows what happens under the numbers you enter. Rates, limits and tax rules change; confirm with the provider or a licensed professional.

Results are illustrations, not offers or advice. Investments can lose value; bank deposits are FDIC-insured up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, per ownership category.
